Taking the Lead, My Day as the Assistant Manager

Due: 12AM the night of your class session as Assistant Manager

As Assistant Manager you were responsible for:

1. Tracking attendance
2. Recording participation for each individual group member

Now... write a brief summary of what your group members can take away from your experience as Assistant Manager for the day.

E.g.- Did you face any challenges? Was your job too easy or boring? Should Assistant Managers have more or less responsibility? Did your promotion encourage you to engage in the class more than you normally would? Should our group have delegated an Assistant Manager right from the start, why or why not? What did you learn today that might be applicable to a similar position in the real world?

Thanks for your help today!

Erika

  1. Being one of the fist asst. managers I wasn't really sure what to expect for today. Today's class didn't allow for much interaction between team members, so it's hard to have any problems with what we had to accomplish today. I apologize for the lack of feedback but, there wasn't much to go off based on tonight's session.

  2. There was not much interaction in today's class, so participation points are going to be given to everyone who attended class. Today's class objective was to work on listening. By giving us a handout asking us to record what we learned, Feinberg prompted us to pay closer attention. After reading through everyone's responses I think that everyone did a good job paying attention to lecture today. Class attendance was successful today, only having two people not in attendance.

  3. Last night's class was not really geared towards group work so my role was very limited. I took attendance and gave participation scores for each group member. The class was solely based on lecture and I thought that the material was pretty comedic. Going along with what Lisa said, I didn't really know what to expect as Assistant Manager either, but I think that the days that we do have Assistant Managers we should do something that is group oriented in class. I hope that my feedback gives a little insight as to what you have to do and my opinion on what needs to change about this role.

  4. I think everyone participated well today in class, at least from my side of the group. Everyone came together to get the activity done, and to discuss which items were important 1-15 as a group. However, I did not feel like an asst manager. I didn't have any responsibility. I think that the asst managers for the day should be introduced so everyone knows who they are and to go to them for any questions they may have.

  5. As the other Assistant Manager, I also think that participation in Wednesday's class was good. Everyone spoke up at least once about an item in the activity that they felt was important, and many people gave reasoning. However, what I contributed to the group activity was horribly wrong, and caused us to not get the best score on the activity. I feel badly about this, but I did not do it on purpose, I guess my logic was just extremely misguided. I think this shows that when you're a leader you're held to a much higher standard according to yourself and the others in your group. This is why I feel so guilty about presenting faulty information.

Being asst, manager did make me engage in class more than usual. I actually had to facilitate discussion and be aware of what everyone was saying. I think this will help me lead small groups when I enter the professional world because I will know how to not only lead but how to contribute effectively.
