(3/29) Time Management

Today's class emphasised the importance of time management.

Recommended Literature:
The Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren
"If you want your life to have impact, focus it! Stop dabbling. Stop trying to do it all. Do less. Prune away even good activities and do only that which matters most. Never confuse activity with productivity. You can be busy without a purpose, but what's the point?" (Pg. 32-33)
First Things First, by Stephen Covey
"Every human has four endowments- self awareness, conscience, independant will and creative imagination. These give us the ultimate human freedom... the power to choose, to respond, to change."
Feinber gave the example of categorizing your time into- (1) Important and Urgent, (2) Urgent, but Not Important, (3) Not Urgent, but Important, and (4) neither Urgent nor Important... ditch all this!

  1. I think that the best way to add hours in my day is by cutting out naps and sleeping less during the night. I try to get as much sleep as I can becasue I think that its healthy, but at the same time I am missing out on time to accomplish my daily tasks. I would have more time for myself to do what I want with the day if I were to budget my sleeping schedule in a different way.

  2. I could add an hour to my day by spending less time on the internet. Whenever I get on the internet, I always want to read the articles posted on AOL and check facebook. Looking at one thing usually leads me to start looking at other things and I end up spending way more time than I had planned on unimportant things. If I could cut out this unproductive time, I would have at least another hour to add to my day.

  3. I agree with Mr. Hanna. As college students we all spend numerous hours in bed relaxing and recovering from crazy college experiences. I believe that adding hours to the day would be easy if people took the initiative to sleep less and do more with their newly found time.

  4. I could add one hour to my day by waking up an hour earlier. If I woke up an hour earlier everyday and used this time to go to the gym, or to get homework done before work and class, I would have more time after work and class to do the other various things I need to get done on a daily basis.

  5. I would add one extra hour to my day by not getting on facebook, getting up an hour or two early, and drinking less at night so I can get more done the next day. :)

  6. I could add an hour to my day by going au naturale. Not wearing make up or fusing with my hair. This has always been my dream, to not do any of that, but I'm still doing it! I could also go to bed an hour later, I go to bed pretty early, but I do wake up VERY early. I could delete my facebook...that'd make me super productive!

  7. If I stopped playing words with friends I would get a ton of time back. It's just so addicting.

  8. I spend a lot of time napping between classes. I could get back so much time if I cut that out.

  9. I could get one more hour in the day if I didn't get distracted so much. I always get distracted while I'm trying to get my homework done.

  10. I feel I could get another hour in the day by cutting out naps. Any time I have free time I always take a nap when I should be working on something else. A way for me not to be so tired during the day is to go to bed earlier and actually do work during the day instead of sleeping. Another way I could add time is when I am hanging out with my roommates to do any homework that I have. I think I can have another hour during the day if I learn to multitask better and prioritize what needs to be done first.
